Subject:Proper feed working
Security:Public

Hey LJ people. In my previous post here I gave instructions for adding my blog's feed to your friends list. And they didn't work. Oops.

But thanks to [info]burr86, who I met at a Vox Non-Launch Party. Apparently he's set up [info]push_cx so it should start working properly now. Thanks, Abe.

I think you can also just click this link: http://www.livejournal.com/friends/add.bml?user=push_cx.

Subject:Cancelling LJ Feed
Security:Public

I have to stop automatically crossposting from Push cx here because there are some bizarre data-eating bugs related to scheduling posts in the future.

But fear not! If you go to the LJ Syndication page, scroll to the bottom, and enter http://push.cx/feed in the "Add Feed By URL" box to get all the geeky goodness automatically delivered to your friends page. Or just follow the feed with your RSS reader or Firefox's Live Bookmarks. You've still got lots of options for all your geeky goodness, just ask me if you need a hand.

I just read a good post on Gadetopia about writing skills and had a small correction to offer. Go read it and come back (and read the two linked posts about Word and Frontpage use). I’ll wait.

One of the problems Sociable has is that it can be incredibly tacky. Yes, speaking as officially as possible, I’m saying lots of links to social bookmarking sites at the end of your posts are ugly. So let me address why I wrote a plugin that’s easily used to make blogs ugly.

Found a neat job site through Ajaxian and filled out a profile to check it out. It’s a neat site, but I’ve got a few concerns/suggestions and a big warning.

I’ve just fixed a few more WordPress 1.5 bugs to create Sociable 1.2. There are also some css changes so that weird themes do fewer weird things to the display of Sociable (and man, do they do a lot).

I’m pleased to announce Sociable 1.1, a bugfix release.

I’ve always loved English’s hyper-specific words like defenstrate (to throw something out of a window) and borborygm (a rumbling noise in the bowels). Something about them is deeply and indelibly funny.

You’ve probably all seen the brain-teaser that’s a perennial favorite with uncreative managers the world over. (Why an exercise in creative thinking is really only loved by incredibly boring people is a discussion beyond the scope of this blog post.)

When I wrote Equality for Python, my example didn’t mention how the Card objects could actually be a terrific waste of memory. A commenter named versimilidude (great handle!) beat me to this post, briefly describing the Flyweight Pattern. Luckily he didn’t provide example code, so I still get to publish this post.

I’ve been quiet the last week because my free time has been taken up by finishing Sociable, a plugin to the WordPress blog software. It’s the reason there are the cute little icons down below this post.

If you’re building a website and don’t have filler text for “About” pages or product descriptions, don’t use lorem ipsum.

A few days ago in #chipy, the chat room for the Chicago Python Users Group, we had a chat about how Python determines equality. It’s a pretty neat and extensible technique, so I’m going to walk through how I recently used it for playing cards.

In the web development world, anyways. So, in the grand scheme of things, maybe not a huge deal to anyone else. Versioning is going to be one of the biggest problems and opportunities there is in web development, and it’s going to take us at least five years to get it right.

Last week I saw a nice article on building hardware keyloggers and today I saw a response on how to defeat them.
